Product description

This inkwell (atramentarium) is a replica of several 1st century originals. Inkwells like this were used all over the Roman Empire between the 1st and 3rd century AD. Nowadays they are part of i.a. the collection of the British Museum in London and the archaeological museum in Narbonne.

This inkwell is handmade of red clay (terra sigillata) and on the inside it is glazed. The upper side has a hole to dip the pen in the ink. The smaller hole can be used to put in the pen, so that the excessive ink can run back in the inkwell. This inkwell has a height of 6 cm.
