Bags like this were worn throughout the Middle Ages: from the Viking era until the Late Middle Ages. For example, it can be worn as a High Medieval pilgrims bag, or a Viking bag for loafs of bread.
The bag is based on depictions from the Manesse Codex. Regarding the Viking era, similar models have been excavated in Birka, Haithabu and Wurt Elisenhof.
