Fuller
Swords, but also spears and other weapons can have a fuller. The fuller is made to reduce weight. Less steel is needed in the middle of a sword, that steel has been removed from a fuller. In the early Middle Ages and Viking Age, wider fuller were often used. As weapon production developed, narrower or multiple fullers were also used. Later swords often had a diamond-shaped blade instead of a fuller. The blade then runs on both sides of the central rib towards the cuts.
