This wakizashi receives its name from the poppy (keshi), which forms the theme of this sword. The poppy is the Japanese symbol for happiness. The poppy-leaves are shown on the black iron tsuba. The fuchi (hilt collar), kashira (pommel) and menuki (grip decorations) are decorated with the flowers. The grip is covered with rye skin and wrapped in brown leather in the style of tsumami-maki.
The blade is razor sharp and is made from 1075 carbon steel. Following traditional methods, it is hardened to 60 HRC at the edge, and 40 HRC at the back. It is polished by hand to a mirrorlike finish, and the hamon is clearly visible. The blade has a fuller (bo-hi), which optimises the balance. The habaki follows the shape of the blade.
The wakizashi is delivered including scabbard. It is finished with black lacquer. The kojiri (butt cap), kurigata (knob for the sageo) and koiguchi (scabbard mouth) are made of buffalo horn. A sword sleeve, silk belt, padded transport bag and certificate are included in delivery.
The wakizashi is 76 cm long (excluding scabbard), with a grip of 18,5 cm and a blade of 57 cm long. It weighs 685 grams (excluding scabbard).
Please note: after purchase, it is unfortunately not possible to return this rare sword.
