Product description

This replica is based on 16th century drawings of Irish kerns (cethern). They wore small wide swords like this. Characteristic is the pommel that is shaped like a ring. Similar swords have been found all over Ireland, the medieval Irish tradition of ring pommels is estimated to date back to the 13th century. A few originals are nowadays part of the collection of the National Archaeological Museum in Dublin and the Ulster Museum in Belfast. In addition to a ring pommel, the sword also has quatrefoil pierced patterns in the cross-guard, which is typical of Irish medieval swords. The sword has a riveted pommel and a wooden grip wrapped with brown leather. This single-handed sword is delivered including a beautiful brown leather scabbard with a wooden core. The blade and tip are blunt, and suitable for light sword fighting and re-enactment.
