This board game was universally played by the Vikings and the Gaelic people of Northern Europe. Hnefatafl or in Gaelic Fidchell is an exciting board game where strategic thinking, assessment skills and insight are needed.
Hnefatafl presumably already dates from the 4th century AD and around this period it was possibly also one of the more popular games. The Norse, Irish and Welsh chronicles have mentioned the game a number of times.
This game consists of a wooden board in which the game pieces can be kept. The board is decorated with Norse ornaments. They game has 37 game pieces (1 red, 12 black and 24 white). The board measures 27 x 27 x 5 cm.
