Falchions are blades with a blade that widen or curve towards the tip. The shape of the falchion can be traced back to Greek and Roman culture. But the falchion had its own unique aesthetic. This European sword occurred in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, grips and variations in the tip. The Hattin falchion is one of the most popular types of falchions from the Middle Ages. The shape is very maneuverable and robust with a short and powerful blade, which was an essential link in the history of warfare. The falchion was a 'no-nonsense' weapon for the common man, while swords had a more luxurious and expensive reputation. In addition to a weapon, it could also be used as a machete. The Hattin falchion's point of balance is quite low along the blade, so it is great for cleaving blows and chopping strikes.
The Battlecry line of historical swords, daggers and axes was designed in collaboration with John Clements. John has unsurpassed knowledge of historical fencing and medieval and Renaissance fighting methods. All items are hand-forged by the forgery of Windlass Steelcrafts of high quality 1065 tempered carbon steel and are strong and resilient. The swords have an extra wide full tang and all weapons are sharp and suitable for cutting tests.
Each model has been put through rigorous physical testing to exceed industry standards. These battle tested weapons have a patinated finish which makes them look even more authentic and historical. Each weapon is individually inspected at every step of the manufacturing process, and only after passing the inspection do they receive the blacksmith's mark on the blade. Each weapon is delivered including a certificate, signed by all craftsmen who have worked on the weapon. Also included is a matching scabbard and, if applicable, a swordfrog.
