Product description

Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the West around the year 800. Charlemagne reigned over the Frankish empire and expanded its borders. His reign brought a golden age over the west and later on he became a role model for many feudal kings.

This is a replica of his sabre that is nowadays exhibited at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna. The sword originates from Persia and it is unknown how it ended up in Europe. It is clear that the sabre was made for a king and possibly this sword was a gift from the Far East. It is obviously a cavalry sabre designed for the Euroasian steppe. The blade is made of carbon steel with a hardness of HRC 50 ? 53.

The fuller is inlaid with gold leaf just like the original. The grip was originally covered with shagreen and decorated with gold leaf. To reduce the costs this gold leaf decoration is replaced by brass. The scabbard is also richly decorated with brass. It is well balanced and has a length of 88,90 cm with a blade of 71 cm and weighs 0,90 kg.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result.
