Product description

The spatha, the sword that was developed in the Iron Age, was the most frequently used sword in Western Europe until the Middle Ages. Combined with a shield this sword was deadly. The point of the sword was rounded, so not suitable for stabbing, but because of the two sharp edges the sword could be very well used. Only from the 11th century onwards the medieval swords developed a cross-guard and in the period of the crusades the design remained nearly the same: a cross shape with a slim blade and different shaped pommels.

This training sword has a slightly bended, typical Celtic cross-guard to catch and parry the enemy blows. The wooden grip is covered with black leather and the blade has a fuller to reduce the sword's weight. The sword is suitable for light sword battles and has a length of 97 cm with a blade length of approx. 75,5 cm.

This sword is an Oakeshott type XII.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result.
