Product description

The name yushu ('perfection') absolutely suits this katana. The detailled construction and finish make it a work of art.
The kashira (pommel) and fuchi (hilt collar) are made of iron and are lacquered. The tsuba is also made of iron and it is hand made. It shows a Japanese temple with cherry blossoms (sakura no hana) in front. The grip decorations (menuki) are made of silvered bronze and contrast against the dark grip wrapping (tsuka-maki). The grip wrapping is made of black, Japanese silk in a cross-over between katate-maki and hineri-maki. This wrapping style became popular during the Edo period.
The blade is made in the shinogi-zukuri style with a fuller (bo-hi). The habaki is made of silvered, engraved copper and follows the shape of the blade. The seppa is made of silvered brass. The blade is razor sharp and is made from 1075 carbon steel. Following traditional methods, it is hardened to 60 HRC at the edge, and 40 HRC at the back. It is polished by hand to a mirrorlike finish, and the hamon is clearly visible.
The katana is delivered including scabbard with rye hide in the same kuroro style. A high quality sword sleeve, a padded transport bag and certificate are included in delivery as well.
The katana is 102,5 cm long (excluding scabbard), with a blade of 74 cm and a grip of 28,5 cm. It weighs 1050 grams (excluding scabbard).

Please note: after purchase, it is unfortunately not possible to return this rare katana.
