Product description

This sword is based on a 9th-century original discovered in France. It may have been used during the Viking raids on northern France and Paris. Today, the original sword is part of the collection of the Musée de l’Armée in Paris.

The sword is classified as a Petersen Type F. Swords of this type were produced in the first half of the 9th century and represent a clear continuation of earlier Merovingian swords used during the Vendel Period. Like its predecessors, this sword features two distinct guards and no pommel. Swords of this type were often single-edged, although this particular example has a double-edged blade.

This type of sword was used during the era of Viking expansion, probably crafted around the time of the Viking raid on Lindisfarne. It therefore symbolizes both the infamous Viking raids and the first settlements established on the Orkney Islands, the Irish Sea region, and the Baltic area.
