Product description

This Viking sword is a replica of an original from the 9th-10th century found on the isle of Eigg, Scotland. The isles of the Hebrides were an important base of the Vikings and were a part of the kingdom of Norway up to the 12th century. The Norse Vikings mixed with the Gaelic population. This luxurious sword is not unique. Similar decorated swords were found all over the Viking area. This Viking sword has a thin blade with a wide fuller. The guard and grip are made of bronze and are richly decorated. The sword is delivered including scabbard. The blade is made of Damascus steel. By folding together various hard and soft layers, the blade becomes a combination of toughness (hardness) and flexibility.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result.

The original method of making Damascus steel from Wootz steel was lost in the modern era. Nowadays, the name Damascus steel is used as a generic term for pattern welded / laminated or melted steel made out of two or more different steel types.
