This badge is based on 15th century originals that were worn by the bodyguards of the Burgundian count Charles the Bold. The badge depicts two (crossbow) arrows that refer to the weapons with which the bodyguards are equipped. Some of these archers were hired by Charles the Bold at his English ally. Besides this badge, the bodyguards also often wore expensive embroidered versions of this symbol on their garments.
