This helmet is based on a Gallic (Celtic) original from the 3rd century BC found in France. This Celtic helmet is made in the art style of the La tène period and is a forerunner of the famous Montefortino helmet. Helmets like these were probably worn all over the Celtic world until the 1st century BC. Presumably these helmets were also worn by the Etruscans, other Italian cultures and Carthagenes. This helmet is equipped with a short neck protector, flexible cheek flaps and a pointed top so that impacts are better guided across the entire helmet. This type of helmet was far ahead of its time. Presumably horsehair was worn at the top of the helmet for decoration.
