This sword is a replica from an original from the 5th-6th century AD, found in the Rhineland. Similar pieces are found in France, Germany, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Great-Britain. It clearly is a sword from the migration period.
The upper and lower cross guard of this luxurious sword are richly decorated. The motives of the decoration are typical for the 5thand 6thcenturies. The pommel is riveted on the upper guard. The handle is made of wood and brass and wrapped with leather. The double edged blade is made of carbon steel with a hardness of 54 HRC. The fuller is broad and shallow to reduce the weight. The sword is 84 cm long, with a blade of 64 cm long and 5 cm wide. Weight approximately 1,7 kg.
