Product description
This Celtic book fitting is made after Old Irish originals that were used in Ireland and at the Scottish west coast (Dál Riata) between the 7th and 9th century. This fitting was used for decorating Old Irish manuscripts, like Bibles and prayer books. The books (and the fittings) were extremely valuable and the Vikings frequently took possession of them during their many raids. Fragments of Irish book decoration have been excavated in i.a. Birka.
This brass book decoration is sold per set of two pieces. Each piece measures 4 x 5 cm and can easily be fastened to the book cover.
