Lucius Annaeus Seneca, who was born in Cordoba, was one of the most striking and popular people during the reign of Emperor Nero. After having made a career in Rome, he was banned to the island of Corsica. After eight years he was excused by Emperor Nero and started to show his face at court. He hoped to have a positive influence, in which he succeeded during the first years, but then tides were changing: the young Nero developed into the Nero known from the history books: a mentally instable man who did horrible things. Seneca withdrew from politics hoping to escape Nero's madness. But a year later he was still forced by Nero to commit suicide.
