This bust is an original replica of Emperor Nero, where he is depicted with a beard and curly hair. The original is part of the Sammlung Gutmann collection in Berlin. These statues were often painted to make them appear life-like.
Nero was the son of Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus and Agrippina the Younger. Nero was emperor of the Roman Empire from 13th October 54 AD until 9th June 68 AD. Nero might have been the most extreme emperor that the Roman Empire has ever known. He is suspected to have caused the Fire of Rome on purpose, so that he could build his new palace, the Domus Aurea.
This bust is completely handmade of alabaster with a bronze layer. It measures 42 x 28 x 24 cm. It is delivered including a black base.
