A bowie knife by Windlass Steelcrafts based on an 1830 original. This was presumably a gift from Ames Cutlery to Captain Washington Hood of the US Army for his services. Captain Hood was known for designing roads in Texas, and mapping the unknown areas of the American frontier. A bowie knife was considered a beautiful gift and would have been worn with pride. The blade is made of 1085 carbon steel, tempered to a hardness of 48-52 HRC. It is delivered including a scabbard.
