Introduction / Purpose
Core Information
Latex Weapons
Material: foam- or fibreglass core covered with a layer of latex
Properties: flexible, realistic appearance, good cushioning
Use: LARP-fights, roleplay
Advantages: relatively inexpensive, well-finished, light
Disadvantages: can crack or delaminate with poor maintenance
Silicone Weapons
Material: silicone layer over core (foam, PVC or fibreglass)
Properties: very flexible and durable, feels more realistic than latex
Usage: intensive LARP use or close-contact combat
Advantages: less chance of cracking, better resistance to moisture and sunlight
Disadvantages: more expensive, harder to repair
Foam-coated weapons
Material: foam directly on core (PVC, fibreglass or metal) without latex finish
Properties: very soft, high safety in impacts
Usage: beginners, large groups, events with stricter safety regulations
Advantages: extremely safe, lightweight, easy maintenance
Disadvantages: less realistic appearance, foam may wear out faster with intensive use
Main Differences
Appearance: silicone > latex > foam-coated
Durability: silicone > latex > foam
Safety: foam-coated > latex ≈ silicone (depending on core)
Price: silicone > latex > foam-coated
Practical tips / application
Use foam-coated weapons for beginners or large battles
Choose latex for a balance between realism and affordability
Choose silicone for intensive use or close-contact scenarios
Regularly check for damage or delamination
