Dragoons were the spearhead of every 17th and 18th century army. Dragoons were heavy infantry troops that moved around very quickly on horseback. Around the 2nd half of the 18th century the dragoons started to function more and more as a cavalry brigade after which they formed the heavy armed cavalry division of the European armies.
