Sabres like this occurred in large numbers in the American navy. The gold-coloured basket shows that sabres like this were used by officers. The sabre is an evolution of the European backsword, a straight, single-edged sword with a basket. It is often single-edged with a slightly curved blade and a quite large knuckle-guard. Cavalry sabres however were straight and two-edged. Originally a 10 th century Hungarian cavalry weapon the sabre had its highlight during the 19th century in the Napoleontic Wars and the American Civil War.

This sabre is delivered including a scabbard. Its length is 95 cm and it has a blade of 71 cm that is decorated with etching. The basket and the leather scabbard are partly made of brass.

Tip: How to adjust the finish of your armour and weaponry
Luxurious (polished)- polish the steel with metal polish or toothpaste. You can even give the item a mirror-like polish. Test on a small surface first!
Handmade (matte)- soak the steel in cola for 40 minutes to 20 hours. Check regularly and treat with black sandpaper.
Antique (patinated) leave the steel to rust for some time in a damp environment, preferably outside. Remove the red layer of rust, to reveal the corroded top layer.

Please note. After finishing the product yourself, the warranty and return right expire. Celtic WebMerchant is not responsible for the obtained result.

Beautiful for usage in theatrical or roleplay shows etc. 4 Stars for its little downside of hard possibility to attach it to belt. Be mindful that after an heavy and uncareful usage sword could start to get stuck in sheath sometimes (an discovery after hundreds of people have tried it in demonstrations). Overall - An beautiful and good quality looking sword.
