This badge is based on several originals. Badges like this were mainly worn during the 15th century and occurred all over Europe. The dolphin symbolizes love and speed. As king over the fish and savior of drowning men, he symbolizes protection of fishermen and seafearers. The 15th century French Prince Charles, later Charles V of France, adopted this symbol. His sympathizers also wore dolphin badges.
