This medieval belt is based on 15th century originals excavated in the medieval city of Paris. The buckle and belt fitting that are used in this belt are based on an original made of pewter and not of pewtered bronze or iron. Sine the 15th century onwards, belts with pewter fittings and buckles increased in popularity. Pewter is cheap so the lower classes in society could also afford a belt with pewter decorations. The decorations on this replica belt are made in the Late Gothic period. The belt is made of brown cowhide. The buckle tongue is made of pewter brass, which is stronger than pure pewter.
