middeleeuws-zwaard-river-witham-13de-eeuw
Medieval sword River Witham, 13th century, semi-sharp
This beautiful single-handed sword is based on an original now in the collection of the British Museum in London. The knight's sword, which dates back to the 13th century, was found in 1825 in the River Witham near Lincoln, England. A striking feature of this sword is the inscription "+NDXOXCHWDRGHDXORVI+" inlaid with gold thread. Despite numerous speculations and attempts to decipher it, the meaning of this supposedly Latin acronym remains unclear to this day. The sword has a wide semi-sharp blade. Two deep fullers run almost along its entire length. The inscription is engraved on one side of the fuller, just like the original, and on the other side a symbolic series of crosses, crescents and stylized quatrefoils. The crossguard and the pommel with full tang construction are made of steel. The wooden grip is wrapped in brown leather. This medieval knight sword comes with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with steel fittings, as well as mounting rings for a sword belt.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0891/2892/7560/files/file_4b59d68b-3f86-421b-824b-0198f06306f4.jpg?v=1754997971
