Long gambeson with detachable sleeves

The first documented use of the gambeson dates to the late 11th–early 12th century AD, although it is likely that gambesons were already used in the early Middle Ages. The gambeson could be worn on its own or beneath a hauberk. Under a hauberk, it protected the body from the impact of blows. Hauberks were sometimes so thick and tough that they alone could provide protection against arrows shot with low draw weight.

This type of gambeson is modeled after the one depicted in the Morgan Bible from 1250 and remained popular into the 14th century. It was later succeeded by a gambeson resembling a padded pourpoint.

This long gambeson features removable sleeves, making it ideal for wearing under chainmail or plate armor. The garment is made from coarsely woven cotton and filled with 100% polyester, with a thickness of approximately 2 cm.
