Using Modelling Wax for Realistic Wounds and Scars
Modelling wax is an awesome medium for creating fake scars, wounds and cuts. It works best on areas of skin that don't move too much, because thin layers can dry out and crack a bit if there's too much movement. With thicker layers, this isn't really a problem. We'll show you how to use modelling wax correctly.
What do you need?
-isopropyl alcohol
-makeup cotton pad
-Spirit Gum
-modelling wax
-vaseline
-modelling spatula
-modelling tools
optional:
-makeup
How to use modelling wax:
Step 1:
Prepare your skin by wiping it with some alcohol. This is to remove the oils from your skin. Then you can apply a layer of Spirit Gum to the area where you're going to apply the modelling wax.
Step 2:
Use the spatula to scoop some modelling wax out of the container. Shape it into a ball or roll in your hands and press it onto your skin where the Spirit Gum is applied.
Step 3:
Start smoothing out the basic shape and edges of the modelling wax with your fingers. Modelling wax is really sticky and tends to stick to your fingers. By applying vaseline to your finger, you can prevent this.
Drag the edges of the shape outward so it blends into your skin.
Use the modelling tools to shape the scar or wound further. You can use the tools to make the edges more blurred or to press a cut or wound into the wax.
Step 5 (optional):
If the colour of the modelling wax doesn't match your skin tone well enough, you can apply makeup over it. You can also use makeup to add redness and other colour effects to the scar or wound, making it look more realistic. If you create a wound or cut, you can also add some fake blood into the cut or wound.
