In the 14th century, the gambeson evolved together with the fashion of the time. Originally, the pourpoint was developed as a variant of the gambeson, but later it was also used in unpadded form in everyday life.
This gambeson or warming pourpoint is equipped with padding that protects the body against blows and plate steel of the armour. The garment caused a major size shift in European fashion because it accentuated the shapes of the body instead of the broad long gowns that were so popular in the high medieval period.
This gambeson is based on originals from the late 14th early 15th century. It is made in the Mi parti style and is decorated with buttons also called Zuparelli, de-facto buttons. This type of gambeson is regularly depicted in 15th-century Italian paintings. The shape of the gambeson ensures that it protrudes from plate armour and provides optimal freedom of movement.
