What's the Best Way to Install a Spear Head?
When you buy a loose spear head and shaft, it's important to install the spear head properly and safely.
Always make sure you're wearing the right safety equipment!
What Do You Need?
-wood plane or wood file
-hammer or drill
-nails or rivet
-pen or pencil
How to Install the Spear Head
Step 1:
Generally speaking, the shafts are too thick to fit far enough into the spear head to be safe. Reduce or reshape the top of the shaft by planing or filing it thinner. Check your progress regularly by attaching the spear head, so you don't shave off too much. You can also sand the wood after you've planed it to make it smoother.
Step 2:
Slide the spear head onto the shaft and make sure the spear head is straight. You can now proceed in two different ways.
You can drive nails through the pre-drilled holes of the spear head. Make sure the size of the nails is large enough to be sturdy.
Or you can use a pen or pencil to mark the location of the pre-drilled holes of the spear head. Remove the spear head from the shaft and drill holes where the markings are. Place the spear head back on the shaft and make sure the holes line up. Insert a rivet through the holes and secure the tail to the rivet.
