A bycocket, or bycoket, is a style of hat that was fashionable for both men and women in Western Europe from the 13th to the 16th century. The hat features a broad brim that is turned up at the back and tapers to a point at the front, like a bird's beak. In French, it's called chapeau à bec, because of this resemblance.
Originally, the hat was worn by nobility and royalty, and later also by the rising merchant class. It was often decorated with feathers, jewels, or other ornaments. Nowadays, the bycocket is mainly associated with the character Robin Hood.
