This T-shaped model emerged from the second half of the 15th century and differs more strongly in form from the sallet than earlier barbutes - presumably under the influence of Greek-Corinthian helmets from classical antiquity, an interest that was strongly revived during the Italian Renaissance.

Barbutes were made especially in Northern Italy in size quantities, but worn throughout 15th-century Europe. This battle-ready reconstruction is based on the helmet of the Milanese armour, admired in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow and dated around 1440-1445; crafted for a member of the noble Von Matsch family of Churburg Castle. The forward-protruding edges of the T-shaped opening protect cheeks and face without impeding vision. The helmet is made of steel, with reinforced edges, blackened interior, riveted leather inlay, and an adjustable chin strap with brass buckle.

This helmet is suitable for show combat and training / sparring within re-enactment - not for LARP - and completes the equipment of a late medieval European warrior.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0891/2892/7560/files/spqr-h503b_helm_barbuta_t_form_mittelalter_schaukampf_stahl.jpg?v=1789408315
