It can sometimes be challenging to come up with creative alternatives for styling clothing pieces, especially when they're associated with a specific historical period or population group, like the Middle Ages or the Vikings. In this blog, we'll present three unique looks, all based on the same Viking dress, namely the Valdis dress in blue.
Viking dress Valdis Look 1 - Dark elf
The first look we're going to create with the Valdis dress is a Dark elf look. Dark elves are often associated with the night and forests where daylight cannot reach. Colours like blue and black are therefore great to use in a dark elf look.
We use the blue Valdis dress as the basic foundation in this outfit. It's a really simple dress, which means you can go in many different directions with layers and accessories. So the dark elf direction too.
Over the dress we give our dark elf an overskirt with different, pointy layers. This overskirt is great for elf costumes and other fantasy characters. These layers over the dress immediately make the whole thing less basic.

We gave our dark elf black ankle boots. These boots are simple, but sturdy and therefore good to use in different looks.
To make the outfit tougher and darker, we chose black leather armour. Our dark elf isn't afraid to fight, but she needs proper protection, of course. The chest armor has engraved details that give it a more elf-like feel. Our dark elf also wears a leather gorget to protect her neck as well.

To be able to add extra accessories to the look, our dark elf wears a simple, but practical belt. Our dark elf has attached a handy bag and a weapon holder to this belt.

In the sword holder our dark elf carries her favourite weapon, an elven sword. This sword is in an elven style, but then black with gold accents. Perfect for a dark elf.

No elf look is complete without the right ears, and a dark elf look is no exception. The pointed ears are the most recognizable aspect of the elf races.

Look 2 - Moon elf
The second look we've created with the blue Valdis dress is in line with the first look, but will have a completely different vibe. The second look is namely a moon elf look. Both the dark elf and the moon elf are associated with the night and darkness, but where the dark elf is a tough warrior, the moon elf is elegant and regal.
So the foundation for this look is again the Valdis dress in the blue colour. This midnight blue colour is a beautiful base for a look inspired by the night sky.
Over the blue dress our moon elf wears a silvery-grey, tunic-like dress. The design of this dress is very fantasy based and gives a regal appearance to the outfit. Because of the shorter front and the split, the blue underdress is still visible.

The two dresses are combined with a simple, but feminine pair of shoes. These low shoes with buckle closure fit beautifully into a more elegant look.
To give this ensemble even more the appearance of a regal elf, we've given our moon elf a fabric belt with embroidery.
This belt is available in different colours.
Our moon elf likes to roam outside at night watching the moon and stars. During these nightly walks she wears a warm, elegant cloak to protect herself from the cold.

Of course, no elf look is complete without a set of elf ears. There are many different variations on elf ears, but for this look we used a classic model.

Look 3 - Witch
The last outfit we've put together with the blue Valdis dress is also a fantasy outfit. This outfit is a fun, playful witch look.
Just like with the first two looks, we start with the blue Valdis dress. Because this dress is so simple, it's really easy to combine in different types of outfits. By working with layers the dress becomes different every time.
To give our witch a playful feel, we've given her a sleeveless overdress with ruche details. This overdress is longer in front and back than on the sides. This means the underdress remains visible not only at the sleeves, but also in the skirt.

We gave our witch the same shoes as the moon elf. These shoes are nicely neutral and can be used for many different looks.
Over the two dresses our witch wears a wide belt. This belt puts a nice emphasis on the waist and makes the whole thing a little tougher.

Our witch also uses her belt to hang some essential items. So she carries a leather pouch on the belt, and a glass bottle in a leather holder. This way she always has her money and her potion at hand.

Of course, our witch also has the well-known witch hat on. We chose a grey hat that matches nicely with the overdress.
To be able to carry larger items, like her spell book, our witch uses a cotton shoulder bag. Her spell book is bound in engraved leather.
