Introduction / Purpose
Core Information
In the Middle Ages, garments and armor components were often fastened with leather or textile laces. Without finishing, these laces could easily fray or be difficult to thread through fastening points.
Aglets are finishes attached to the ends of laces. They are usually pointed in shape, allowing them to be easily threaded through holes, eyelets, or loops. Historically, aglets were made from among other things metal or reinforced material.
Practical Tips / Application
Use aglets to prevent fraying of laces.
They make it easier to thread laces through small openings.
Due to their pointed shape, aglets can also help in loosening tight knots in laces.
