A recurvebow, also known as a horsebow, is specially designed for use on horseback.
Recurvebows are generally shorter than regular bows and the limbs have a considerable curve. This curve helps shorten the length of the bow without losing energy and speed when shooting.
Recurvebow draw weight
Important for any bow is the draw weight. The draw weight determines how much force you need to pull the bow all the way back. This draw weight is measured in lbs, English pounds (1 lbs = 0.454 kg). The heavier the bow, the more weight you need to be able to pull, but also the faster the arrow will be when it's fired.
The average draw weight of a recurvebow is between 15 and 50 lbs.
The limbs of a recurvebow are often made up of laminates, which are multiple layers of wood and plastic, such as fibreglass and carbon, that are glued together.
