The pilgrim badge was the mass product of the Middle Ages. The badges were cast in large numbers from a mold and were made of tin. Due to mass production and the cheap material, they were affordable for the common man. People liked to wear these badges on their clothing. During pilgrimages, they could buy these badges as souvenirs. Many badges feature an image of a saint or a Christian theme. But there are also many secular badges such as animals, sexual badges, doctor's badges, and jousting badges.
