How can I give my wig beautiful curls?
Frequent wearing, combing, or steaming of a synthetic wig can cause the wig to lose its curl. Just like you can straighten a wig with steam, you can also curl a wig with steam. Don't use a heated curling iron on your synthetic wig! Most synthetic wigs can't handle such high temperatures and the hair will melt!
Hair rollers
Start by combing or brushing your wig. You don't want it to be matted before you curl it. Separate the hair into sections and leave the bottom section loose. Place hair rollers in the wig, just like you would with real hair. Take a not-too-thick section of hair and wrap it around the roller. Secure the roller in place at the root of the strand. A smaller roller will result in tighter curls, but you'll need smaller sections and more rollers. A larger roller will result in bigger curls or waves.
If you don't have rollers available, you can even use empty toilet rolls and secure them with bobby pins. You can cut the toilet roll along its length to make it narrower for tighter curls.
Once all the rollers are in place, take a large plastic bag and place it over the wig. Now grab your steamer and blow steam into the bag. To keep as much steam as possible in the bag, you can wrap the opening around the steamer's handle. Try not to touch the wig with the steamer's mouth, as the mouth can get quite hot and damage the hair.
Cooling down
After a few minutes, remove the steamer from the bag. Let the bag with steam stay over the wig a while longer. Remove the bag after max. 10 minutes and let the wig cool and dry. Don't remove the rollers too early, or the curls won't be properly set. You can try to speed up this process by using a hair dryer on the cool setting.
Once the wig is completely cooled and dry, you can remove the rollers. Depending on the look you're going for, you can leave the curls as they are, or you can gently comb or brush through them. Unbrused curls show individual strands and curls, while brushed curls blend together for a softer look.
