These socks are made after 1st to 4th century originals found in Vindolanda. Originally these socks were not a part of the equipment of a legionary. However, in the emperor period they are worn, mostly in the Northern provinces. We know of a large order of socks from the 1stcentury for the Roman legionaries at Hadrians wall.
The socks are made of wool and there are no visible sewing machine patterns.
