This sword is a museum replica of a late 15th - early 16th century original. Swords like this were used a.o. during the Tudor period. Henry VIII was known to have a fascination for tournaments. Several suits of armour were made specially for him. Together with this sword they are part of the Royal Armouries of Leeds collection.
This type of two-handed sword was a typical infantry weapon. The sword has a wooden grip wrapped round with leather. It is 163 cm long with a 112,5 cm blade and 5,1 cm wide. The sword weighs approx. 2,9 kg.
