This handmade oil lamp is a replica of several Roman originals. Lamps like this were used all over the Roman Empire between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD. For centuries they were the most important source of artificial light all over the world.

This oil lamp is completely functional and is made of terra cotta. Originally olive oil was used as fuel, but also lamp oil or fat can be used.
