This sallet was the successor of the bascinet from the middle of the 15th century on. They were close to the head and were often worn combined with a bevor, which protected the neck. Because the original sallet only offered the back of the head a good protection, it was made with a visor in later times. Later on the neck plate also became more protruding and distinct. The version without visor was often worn by archers. Because the sallet left a large part of the neck unprotected, a bevor was often worn underneath. This helmet is custom made, click here to download the size table.
