The bascinet was a helmet without a visor that was worn underneath the great helmet at the beginning of the 14th century. Around 1450 the bascinet was often worn loose with a visor attached to it. The helmet has a pointy end to catch blows and because of its shape it was often called hounskull or pig faced helmet. Bascinets occurred all over Europe.
