Crossbows like this were used in Europe between the 11th and 15th century. The use of this crossbow was first mentioned in the Battle of Hastings, 1066. It was used by the Normans. Around the 12th century the crossbow was used more often. The crossbow was such a deadly weapon that the Council of the Lateran decided in 1139 that someone who used a crossbow against another Catholic person, should be excommunicated.

The crossbow is made of oakwood. Some parts are laminated with glass fiber and wrapped round with rope. This crossbow can be drawn with the foot. It is available in several draw weights, up to 35 lbs is suitable for re-enactment purposes.
