The bascinet was a helmet without a visor that was worn underneath the great helmet at the beginning of the 14th century. Around 1450 the bascinet was often worn loose with a visor attached to it. The helmet has a pointy end to catch blows and because of its shape it was often called hounskull or pig faced helmet.

This bascinet was worn in later periods because of the top that is placed at the back instead of the middle. It can be fastened under the chin with a strap.
