Shirasaya is a special sword composition that was mainly used in time of peace. The undyed Magnolia wooden scabbard and grip optimally protect the blade from acid and other damages. Many Shirasaya were provided with a Sayagaki, an inscription that provided information on the smith, origin and classification.
In the 19th century the wearing of a katana became prohibited by a Japanese emperor. The wooden grip of the Shirasaya makes the katana resemble a staff, stick or bokken. This way it could keep being worn in the Japanese streets.
This katana has a Shinogi-Zukuri style blade with Hohlkehle (Bo-Hi). It is made of 1045 carbon steel with a hardness of 55 HRC. The blade is razor sharp and is finished with Hamon. The grip is fastened with two bamboo stifts (Mekugi) to the tang (Bohrung). The grip can easily be replaced.
This katana is 100,5 cm long with a 72,5 cm blade and a 28 cm grip.

When packaging this item, we exclusively use 100% recycled plastic and recycled paper/cardboard from FSC certified forests. We reuse a large part of the material directly without the intervention of a recycling process.

2. Plastic cushions, clothing bags and plastic tape: separate or reuse your plastic. If possible, pierce the cushions with a volume reduction needle.
3. Paper packaging for jewelry and small items: these have a plastic inner layer. Remove these, then separate your paper and plastic.
