This shield is a replica of a 1st century Hoplomachus shield found in Italy. The Hoplomachus was a heavy armed gladiator inspired by the Greek hoplite. Shields of this size were also used by the later hoplites and the Etruscans.
This shield is made of bronze just like the original and has a diameter of 53 cm. It has a width of 22 cm. The shield is provided with traditional hand bars.
