The bastard sword or the hand-and-a-half sword was presumably called like this because it was nor a single-handed sword nor a two-handed sword. It could be used on both ways, a second hand could be put on the pommel and half on the grip to put more force behind blows. A similar type of sword is part of the collection of the Landesmuseum in Zürich.
This sword has a length of 107 cm with a blade of 84 cm and a cross-guard of 25 cm. It weighs approx. 1,7 kg. It has a typical Flemish pommel and a middle rib for extra solidity. This sword is an Oakeshott type XVa.
This sword is custom made.
Suitable for re-enactment and martial arts. The razor sharp version is suitable for cutting tests. The blade is handmade and tempered, using traditional forging techniques.
