Cleavers like this were used for cleaving wood. Later models were specially developed for cleaving bone or flesh. They were frequently used in historical encampments and by infantrymen. The weapon was of course not only used for woodworking but also for cleaving the enemy. This cleaver is delivered semi-sharp.
