Product description

This bust is a replica of the statue of emperor Trajanus. These statues were often painted to make them appear lifelike.

Trajanus (Latin: Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus Augustus; (Itálica, 18 september 53 - Selinus, 9 august 117), was a Roman emperor from 98 to 117. Trajanus was born in a non-Patrician family in the province Hispania Baetica, in Spain. Trajanus` fame increased during the reign of emperor Domitianus. Trajanus served as a legatus legionis in Hispania Tarraconensis, Spain, and in 89 he supported the emperor with a rebellion at the Rhine led by Antonius Saturninus. In september 96 Domitianus was succeeded by Marcus Cocceius Nerva, an old and childless senator that appeared to be not that popular in the army. After a short and turbulent year of reign, a rebellion by members of the Praetorian Guard forced him to adopt the more popular Trajanus as his heir and successor. Nerva died on 17 januari 98 and without incident his adopted son succeeded him.

This bust is completely handmade of alabaster and its height is 14 cm. It is delivered including a black pedestal.
