This bust is an original replica of emperor Augustus wearing a laurel. The original is part of the collection of the LandesMuseum in Munich. These statues were often painted to make them appear lifelike.
Augustus (23rd september 63 BC - Nola, 19th august 14 AD) was a second cousin of Julius Caesar and became the first emperor of Rome. He introduced many reforms of which the Roman empire would still profit for the next hundreds of years.
