The bascinet was a helmet without a visor that was worn underneath the great helmet at the beginning of the 14th century. Around 1450 the bascinet was often worn loose with a visor attached to it. The helmet has a pointy end to catch blows and because of its shape it was often called hounskull or pig faced helmet.

This helmet consists of three parts: the helmet itself, the visor and the neck and chin protection. It can be fastened under the chin with a strap.
